On Some Applications of Graph Theory, II

For m = 2 we get the graphs. n is again the order of the m-graph; the meaning of m-subgraphs, complete m-graphs is obvious. We shall deal especially with the case m = 3, i.e. with the case of trigraphs, though the geometrical problems we are dealing with have natural analogues (and also problems of new type) for higher dimensions, and these involve m-graphs with general m’s, Let A,, A,, A, be t...

The Dehn Function of Baumslag’s Metabelian Group

A. Baumslag’s group is a finitely presented metabelian group with a Z ≀ Z subgroup. There is an analogue with an additional torsion relation in which this subgroup becomes Cm ≀ Z. We prove that Baumslag’s group has an exponential Dehn function. This contrasts with the torsion analogues which have quadratic Dehn functions. 2000 Mathematics Subject Classification: 20F65, 20F10

On Some Problems of a Statistical Group-theory. Ii

if only co(n) -> with n . Hence log O(P) is for almost all P's much less than its maximum, which is as LANDAU 2 proved, 1/n log n . Though several questions in the first paper were left to later papers of this series and we intend indeed to return to them in paper 111, in this paper we launch another trend which seems to us equally interesting in itself and perhaps even more inherent to the alg...

Fixed Points of Endomorphisms of a Free Metabelian Group

We consider IA-endomorphisms (i.e. Identical in Abelianization) of a free metabelian group of finite rank, and give a matrix characterization of their fixed points which is similar to (yet different from) the well-known characterization of eigenvectors of a linear operator in a vector space. We then use our matrix characterization to elaborate several properties of the fixed point groups of met...
